Among the stinzenplants and bulbs for naturalising is Tulipa sylvestris, or the Woodland tulip, perhaps the most well-known Tulip. The Woodland tulip is not native to the UK, but is native to Italy, Sicilia and Sardinia. Only later has Tulipa sylvestris naturalised in northern Europe.

The Woodland tulip features in the gardens of many country estates in the Netherlands (for example, Neerijnen, where it flowers in abundance). Tulipa sylvestris is suitable for naturalising, but needs a fertile soil and not too much competition from grasses and other plants.
